Improve and Develop Your Reaction Time With These Six Drills

By agility On March 26, 2012 No Comments

The Objective of these drills are to improve your reaction time and coordination. Many movements in sports require acceleration and agility plus reaction. For example, linebacker in football reacting to a running back who is cutting or trying to spin past them. If the linebacker is able to 1) react quickly, and 2) put their body in the most efficient position to change direction and accelerate to the ball carrier then they will be more likely to be in position to make a tackle. Reaction time is defined as the time between the presentation of a stimulus (in this case the ball carrier) and the time it takes to respond to that stimulus. The following drills are best performed with a training partner giving a go comand before each drill. That is what you will react to.

1) Kneeling to sprint 10–20 yards

Want To Know What Seperates The Elite Athlete From The Rest

By agility On March 23, 2012 1 Comment

Speed, jumping ability, agility, quickness and power can all be lumped into the category of athletic ability or explosiveness. These qualities not only allow one to dominate the competition but also are sought after by coaches and admired by fans.

In all the world of sport being an explosive, smooth, and agile machine is looked on with admiration. With all things being equal a fast, agile, and explosive athlete will have a much greater chance of success and if skill levels are equal victory will generally go to the best athlete. Spectacular athletic ability will strike terror into the heart of the opposition. If you’ve been on the other side of this you already know.

No matter the sport, more then any other quality – explosiveness separates the elite from the average.

The situations are endless and whatever sport you happen to participate in is arbitrary. Whether you’re a professional level athlete preparing

Athletes Are Not Born Great, They Are Made Great Here’s How

By agility On February 15, 2012 1 Comment

The old way of thinking was that you were either born with natural athletic talent or not. If you did not possess natural talent then you were relegated to the bench or stands. We now know better. You really begin to gain your athletic ability as soon as you start running as a child. If you’re a kid that ran and jumped all the time when you were a toddler and continued as you grew older, you’re probably a better athlete than a child that did not. Todd Marinovich was raised basically from birth to become a NFL Quarterback, and he did make it to the NFL. There are many articles and videos showing the workout sessions he did showing how he became a great athlete. I would say the only difference may be a child born with two

SAQ Speed Agility Quickness Training Workout

By agility On January 26, 2012 1 Comment

SAQ is a term for speed agility and quickness

SPEED: What is speed? According to a study Weyand and his colleagues published in The Journal of Applied Physiology in 2000, all humans move their legs at about the same rate when they run. The slowest woman in the study, the time she took to reposition her leg was the same as Olympic sprinter Donovan Bailey. However, she could only sprint half as fast. When it comes to speed, its not so much how fast your legs are moving, but how much force they can exert on the ground. Some of the fastest human sprinters exert a force of about four times their body weight. Generally, maximum speed is reach at about 6-8 seconds or at maximum effort.

AGILITY: Agility is the ability in which you can change the body’s direction
